10 Diversity & Inclusion Activities to do with Your Team

by Laura Haberstich on November 20th, 2024 in Civil Rights/Human Rights, Inclusive Education, News & Current Events, Rights for the Disabled, Social and Public Welfare | 0 Comments

Diversity and inclusion (D&I) practices are not the sole responsibility of the human resources (HR) department. They are the keys to running a successful company, therefore everyone in the workplace should take part.  In order to achieve true diversity and inclusion in the workplace, performing team D&I activities is crucial.  For ideas that are specific to your company’s D&I strategy, reach out to your D&I team or HR department and ask them what they have to offer.

  1. Start a Diversity and Inclusion Book Club

  2. Act Like a Man, Act Like a Woman

  3. Take the Implicit Association Test

  4. Enjoy 6-in-1 Interactive D&I Exercises

  5. Unpack the Diversity Toolkit

  6. Go on a Privilege Walk

  7. Get Deep with The Iceberg Activity

  8. Cook Up a Cultural Potluck

  9. Open The Gender-Neutral Jar

  10. Ask Yourself: I Am…But I Am Not

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Competencies Across the Learning Continuum

by Laura Haberstich on November 20th, 2024 in Basic Biological and Medical Research, Civil Rights/Human Rights, Inclusive Education, Research & Writing, Social and Public Welfare | 0 Comments

Abstract: Competency-based education (CBE) is a developing approach to health professions education. The AAMC has a long history with CBE and defining the fundamentals for practicing in an increasingly complex health care system. Over the past 20 years, medical education has improved in many ways, including in how outcomes such as competencies are defined and used to guide teaching and learning. To support this kind of positive change, we offer the New and Emerging Areas in Medicine Series. The series frames competencies across the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education continuum. This report includes an introduction to CBE and competencies in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), including the historical context and importance of developing competence in this area and tactics for integrating this essential educational focus into the curriculum. Details about the development process and a glossary of terms are included as appendixes.
