Benjamin Franklin House at 36 Craven Street in the heart of London is a heritage 'gem' and the world's only remaining home of Benjamin Franklin.

Built in 1802 and designed by John McComb Jr., the Grange served as founding father Alexander Hamilton's country home in Harlem. Unfortunately, Hamilton only lived here for two years before he was killed in the famous duel with Aaron Burr. The building has since been moved twice, but still remains on the 32 acres of land of the original property.

According to Perry & Co. Sotheby's International Realty:

The Joseph Hewes House, named for a signer of the Declaration of Independence who is believed to have once owned the property, was built in 1756. This Colonial-era residence is in the heart of Edenton's historic district, just steps from the waterfront and downtown shops and restaurants. This handsome 4-bedroom, 2 ½ -bath home has been enlarged multiple times over the years, most recently with a wonderful kitchen addition. The five-bay center-hall plan home is flanked on both sides by porches, and retains much of its original charm and woodwork, including flooring, mantles hardware, and seven fireplaces. The master bath has been recently updated and a fabulous walk in closet added - rare in historic homes! Three guest bedrooms share a full bath, and permanent stairs to the third floor make a great space for a playroom or convenient storage. Following the British defeat at Kings Mountain, Charles, Lord Cornwallis dispatched Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton to suppress an American force under Lt. Col.. Thomas Sumter. Sumter assumed a defensive position on William Blackstock's farm near the Tyger River. Tarleton attacked on November 20, 1780. Teh British launched two attacks and wounded Sumter but were unable to drive the Americans from the field. Tarleton withdrew while Sumter slipped over the Tyger to safety.

On August 16, 1780 an American army under Maj. Horatio Gates clashed with a British force led by Charles, Lord Cornwallis north of Camden, South Carolina. The battle was a crushing defeat for Gates. Combined with the fall of Charles three months earlier, the battle was a major blow to the American war effort and left South Carolina firmly in the hands of the British.

On January 17, 1781 a British force under Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton engaged Americans led by Brig. Gen. Daniel Morgan at the Cowpens below the Broad River. Morgan employed an innovative tactic known as a defense in depth. The battle resulted in a devastating defeat for the British as the Americans maintained the initiative in the Southern Theater.

On September 8, 1781, Maj. Gen. Nathaniel Greene's Continental engaged a British force led by Lt. Col. Alexander Stewart. After tactical losses at Hobkirk's Hill and Ninety-Six, Greene hoped to strike a major blow to the British. Both sides sustained heavy casualties in the ensuing engagement and eventually abandoned the field. Eutaw Springs ultimately became the last major battle of the Southern Campaign.

On March 15, 1781, a British army under Charles, Lord Cornwallis clashed with the Southern Continental army under Maj. Gen. Nathanael Greene at Guilford Courthouse. Greene e,ployed a tactic successfully utilized at the Battle of Cowpens two months before. While he was pushed from the field, Greene inflicted heavy casualties on the British. The battle compelled Cornwall's's withdrawal toward Wilmington. With few options, Cornwallis decide to move on Virginia and began the long road to Yorktown.

Following the Continental aurrendar at Charleston in may 1780, teh British army moved to pacify South carolina by stablishing garrisons throughout the countryside. One post was established at Hanging Rock, northwest of Camden. In two separate enagements, Patriot partisans engaged and defeated the British force at Hanging Rock. These victories helped maintain Patriot morale as the war moved deeper into South Carolina.

After the Battle of Camden, Charles, Lord Cornwallis moved into North Carolina. Maj. Patrick Ferguson's Loyalist militia guarded Cornwallis's left. on October 7, 1780 Ferguson clashed with Patriot militia at Kings Mountain in South Carolina's backcountry. The Americans, known as Overmountain Men, surrounded Ferguson's force. During the ensuing fight, Ferguson was killed and his entire command was either killed or captured. The victory helped reverse Patriot fortunes in the Southern Campaign.

Located on the main road between the Cherokee towns and Charleston, South Carolina, Ninety Six was a prosperous trading settlement in the early half of the eighteenth century. During the American Resolution, Ninety Six become a critical Loyalist outpost in the Carolina back country. Ninety Six witnessed the first land battle south of New England in 1775. The longest siege of the conflict occurred at Ninety Six in the early summer of 1781. The British eventually abandoned the post.

After the British capture of Charleston on May 12, 1780 Lord Charles, Cornwallis advanced into the South Carolina interior. The remaining Continentals withdrew before Cornwallis advance. On May 29, a British force under Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton caught up with an American detachment under Col. Abraham Buford at the Waxhaws near the NorthCarolina border. The ensuing battle resulted in American route, however, controversy still swirls around the conduct of Tarleton and his men.

Unable to defeat an American force in the Carolinas, Lord Charles Cornwallis moved his British army to Virginia in the spring of 1781. After an inconclusive campaign, Cornwallis established a base at Yorktown in August. Apprised of his position, George Washington moved a combined American and French force from new York and surrounded Cornwallis's position at the end of September. following a brief siege Cornwallis capitulated on October 19, effectively ending the American Revolution.

Gadsby's Tavern Museum consists of two buildings, a ca. 1785 tavern and the 1792 City Tavern and Hotel. In those seven short years, the young Republic began to take shape through the conversations and choices being made in these tavern spaces. The impact of these choices and how far to extend power—political, economic, and social—is still being felt today. Named for Englishman John Gadsby who operated them from 1796 to 1808, the tavern businesses were central to Alexandria’s port-based economy, offering spaces to dine, entertain, and spend the night. A large enslaved labor force made Gadsby’s renowned hospitality possible. Notable patrons that enjoyed this hospitality included George and Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the marquis de Lafayette. (14:03 min.)

The United States National Historic Landmark Program is designed to recognize and honor the nation's cultural and historical heritage. The program was formally inaugurated with a series of listings on October 9, 1960; as of August 21, 2020, there are 2,597 designated landmarks. The United States has 63 national parks, which are congressionally designated protected areas operated by the National Park Service, an agency of the Department of the Interior.[1] National parks are designated for their natural beauty, unique geological features, diverse ecosystems, and recreational opportunities. While legislatively all units of the National Park System are considered equal with the same mission, national parks are generally larger and more of a destination, and hunting and extractive activities are prohibited.[2] National monuments, on the other hand, are also frequently protected for their historical or archaeological significance. Eight national parks (including six in Alaska) are paired with a national preserve, areas with different levels of protection that are administered together but considered separate units and whose areas are not included in the figures below. The 423 units of the National Park System can be broadly referred to as national parks, but most have other formal designations.[3]
