Public health is a wide-ranging field of health care that involves numerous policies, medical specialties, and efforts, all aimed at understanding, preventing, and managing disease and promoting better health outcomes among individuals, communities, population cohorts, nations, global regions, and the entire world.

Process of conferring immunity to infectious disease by artificial methods, in other words making someone not liable to catch a disease. The most widely used technique is vaccination (see vaccine). Immunization is an important public health measure.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is the agency of the United Nations (UN) that is responsible for public health. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the WHO has offices around the world and employs over 8,000 people in total, including medical doctors, epidemiologists, and public health experts.
